Cleanable stainless-steel screens for hygienic separation and product protection

Screens and strainers in food production must achieve the separation duty while supporting hygiene, cleanability, traceability and foreign-body control. We supply stainless-steel woven mesh, crimped screens, discs, baskets and cylinders for dry screening, liquid straining and equipment protection. Food-contact suitability must be confirmed for the finished article and intended market—not assumed from the alloy name alone.

What Customers Need to Control

  • Product loss or low throughput caused by the wrong aperture shape
  • Blocked mesh, trapped residue or difficult cleaning
  • Wire fatigue and foreign-body risk on vibrating screens
  • Incomplete food-contact documentation for the destination market
What Customers Need to Control

Application-to-Solution Matrix

Process / Duty Recommended Mesh Solution Key Selection Inputs
Sugar, flour, starch, spice Square or long-slot woven/crimped screen Particle shape, cut size, throughput, blinding tendency
Brewing, juice, edible oil Stainless woven strainers, baskets or cylinders Viscosity, solids load, CIP, surface and joint design
Water and ingredient protection Fine mesh disc or supported element Upstream particle load, ΔP, inspection and replacement access
Vibratory screening Crimped/rectangular mesh with engineered tensioned edges Machine, tension direction, fatigue, gasket and metal detection plan

Verified Data & Public Application Evidence

Public industry case

Public application reference — sugar screening. Haver & Boecker’s technical note reports that rectangular apertures commonly use a 1:3 aspect ratio and can reach 1:25; compared with square mesh using comparable wire, the larger open area can increase throughput and flexibility. It also describes magnetisable 1.4462 duplex stainless steel for sugar screens so broken metal can be detected magnetically, while balancing hardness and vibration fatigue. These are supplier-specific design observations, not universal performance guarantees.

Engineering interpretation

Regulatory basis: Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 requires food-contact materials, under normal or foreseeable use, not to transfer constituents in quantities that endanger health, unacceptably change food composition, or deteriorate organoleptic properties; it also establishes traceability expectations. A material certificate alone does not establish full compliance of a fabricated filter.
